Reply with quote | #1 | Sorry everyone, but I have to rant and rave!! DH and I left to pick up our oldest son and take him to the dentist today around 3:30. We got back home around 5 p.m. My nephew, who lives up the road from us came walking up before we even got out of our vehicle. He told us that the UPS driver had ran over our youngest pup, Whiner, and killed him..He said he heard it from his house!!.he said he was laying on the side of the road below our house...Well, I went ballistic and DH went down to check and sure enough...dead as could be!!!
Well, I started bawling and ranting at the same time...I am trying to find out WHO the driver was...granted, maybe the guy couldn't stop in time, but why the hell didn't he stop after he hit the dog and come back or at least freaking apologize!! but NO, he just went right on, like he didn't have a care in the world!!!!!!!
My heart is broken and so are my boys...I just don't understand why it is always OUR animals...Last week a pit bull got hold of my old dog Repo (ON OUR LAND) and busted him up pretty good. Took him to the vet and he is on antibiotics until the teeth holes heal and his shoulder heals, it was torn up...Whiner was Repo and our female, Sugar's, only pup left. He was such a loving little guy...I swear I am furious and crying at the same time...sorry, everyone, just had to rant and gripe....

Reply with quote | #2 | Oh my god! That is so sad. Why was he out on the road? Did he get loose somehow? That poor little pup, and poor you.
I am really sorry. Maybe the UPS didn't even know he hit him or he panicked? I would call the local UPS transfer station and ask to speak to someone about it. Even if your dog ran out in front of him, an apology and a little remorse is due you.
Sorry that this happened to your pup. It is a real shame.

OMG...that really is horrible. I've lost pets, but never in such a traumatic way. Julia, I think it is the law that you must report just an incident. I'm so sorry for the loss...nothing can replace such a loved member of the family....Please know my thoughts are with you. |

The UPS Central Location will know which driver was on your road. I do have to say though, if the dog was small and ran out, chances are he didn't know he hit it. Large trucks can't "feel" it like a car or pickup. I am so sorry! I am a Dog lover and know your pain. It's almost like losing a child.

Reply with quote | #9 | That is awful, but it is possible the driver didn't even know they ran over the puppy. A large UPS truck proably wouldn't even feel it.
We have neighbors who have small dogs and they let them out when no one is home. I'm always afraid one of them will get behind the car and get run over.

There are no words to express my deepest sympathies. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I share your tears. I know how much our fur kids bring to our lives. And untimely departures tear our hearts. You're in my prayers.

Reply with quote | #11 | Oh no, how awful! I'm so sorry! The UPS guy may never have known he hit the poor little guy. Also, I think UPS drivers are under a tight schedule and often times work until late in the evening under strict deadlines. It could be that he hasn't had time yet to do anything about it.
My dog got ran over and killed by a vet. UGH...I felt so bad for the vet. HE felt horrible of course. It was my fault...I live in the middle of 10 acres, and you'd think my very well-trained, well behaved loyal dog could stay home while I was in the shower for 10 minutes in the morning. I didn't know it, but he was sneaking over to the neighbors house across the road (a little rural road with hardly any traffic) to get a treat every morning. On the way home, he jumped in front of the vet's truck.

Maybe UPS will start to care about negligent drivers running over dogs if enough people complain.

Reply with quote | #14 | I am so sorry to hear this. Our two dogs are our family, we would be DEVASTED. We cannot understand how neighbors can let their dogs roam free on the streets. Several have been killed. Ours are on leashes when outside, and are never allowed to roam around. We fenced in our back yard for them. When they have "escaped" on occasion my heart falls to my feet as I know drivers are focused on driving and their cell phones, not dogs that want to cross the street.
Sorry your puppy escaped, I know you are heartbroken.

Reply with quote | #15 | Thanks everyone. I did call UPS and they are "looking into it"..which means they will do nothing, as usual. All I really want is, at least, an apology from the driver..even if he didn't realize what happened. But I am not going to hold my breath.
